The area of Wenhua Road, Jianshanpu Road and Zhongqing Street is where the earliest ceramics industry of Yingge started. The history of ceramics spans over two centuries. During the booming past of kiln factories, the argil areas they mined were nearby Jianshan. The excellent quality made Yingge famous island-wide and was renowned as the “Ceramic Town”. It has also been given a beautiful nickname “Jingdezhen of Taiwan”.
The Yingge Ceramics Old Streets is home to over 200 ceramics shops. Themed “Ceramics” stores such as exclusive ceramics shops, pottery studios, old Yingge ceramics shops, pottery exhibition galleries, DIY pottery classrooms, and factory-direct sales and so on are situated along the streets.
Situated at the entrance of the old streets, a Minnan-style building made of red bricks was actually a copy of the century-old building named Cheng Fa Ju, and is an artwork installation of an iron Yingge Bird that is meant to create an entrance of fantasy. The shops on the road feature a uniform architecture of red-bricked pillars.
[Important spot] Grandma’s Tofu Pudding
There are
mostly ceramics shops in the old streets of Yingge. But you can also enjoy a
pure and natural handmade traditional tofu pudding here. Besides traditional
tofu pudding made from soybeans, there is a black tofu pudding with a unique
aroma. Two additional ingredients can be selected to go with your tofu pudding,
as well as ginger juice. A full bowl of tofu pudding quenches your thirst in
summer, and warms your stomach in winter. When you visit the Yingge Ceramic Old
Streets, come here for a rest and taste the handmade tofu pudding.
