Yingge Ceramics Museum

Over a hundred years ago, the Yingge ceramic industry was born out of this fertile land, enhancing the local Taiwanese culture with boundless vitality. The pioneers, bursting with creativity and determined, strove to make this town a prosperous centre of ceramics.

As the first modern ceramics museum in the nation, it upholds the never-extinguishing fire of the Yingge’s kilns. It displays the masterpieces created by kilns, clay and glaze, with the hope that the beauty of Taiwan ceramics will be renowned worldwide.

Constructed with bare concrete, a steel frame and glass panes, the architecture of the Ceramics Museum is designed to juxtapose the ethereal and the substantial, imparting the simple steel frame, the design of high ceilings and clean colours, and the huge glass panes that let in natural sunlight, all these demonstrate various effects of light transmission in the expansive interior space of the museum.

The museum is, then, both a platform for the limitless possibilities of art and a tourist icon of Yingge ceramics. It provides spaces for exhibitions, museum of ceramic history introductions, ceramic teaching, as well as “soil” experience area for children.
